Race Registration

WHEN CAN I SIGN UP FOR NEXT YEAR’S RACE?
Registration will open for the 2009 on October 1st, 2008. Both the short course and the Timberman 70.3 fill very quickly, so plan to register soon after registration opens to ensure entry into the race.

THE TIMBERMAN 70.3 IS FULL. IS THERE ANY WAY I CAN GET INTO THE RACE?
Yes, there are 25 slots available for Timberman 70.3 available at the Mooseman Half, June 8. Visit www.moosemantriathlon.com for more information.

WHAT IS THE LATEST DATE I CAN WITHDRAW AND STILL GET A PARTIAL REFUND?
A partial refund will be made of $30 for the short course and $125 for the 70.3, if requested, in writing, on or before July 1, 2008. After this date, no refunds, no exceptions. NO ENTRY TRANSFERS ALLOWED. (Contact Claire@endorfunsports.com for further information.)

HOW WILL I RECEIVE MY RACE PACKET?
Race packets will not be mailed. All packets can be picked up at Gunstock TimberFEST on Friday evening. The Short Course Triathlon athletes may also pick up their packet at the Ellacoya State Park race site on race morning, from 5-7 am. For the 70.3 athletes, you MUST pick up your packet either Friday evening or Saturday at TimberFEST. No race day packet pick up available, unless approved by Race Director Keith Jordan. Call 603-293-8353 Please note that you must have your packet, bib number, and Winning Time Timing Chip to race. NO PACKET PICKUP IS AVAILABLE ON RACE DAY FOR THE 70.3, unless prior arrangements are made with the Race Director. You may contact him at keith@timbermantri.com.

WHAT DO I GET FOR MY ENTRY FEE?

HOW MANY QUALIFYING SLOTS ARE THERE FOR THE FOSTER GRANT IRONMAN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 70.3 IN CLEARWATER , FL , AND HOW ARE THEY DISTRIBUTED?
There will be 50 slots, awarded at the Awards Ceremony. You MUST have a check for $300 made out to Endorfun Sports, or cash. Slots must be accepted at the Awards Ceremony. If you are not a USAT member, you MUST also purchase the $10 one day license for the event. A table with a tentative slot allocation is available HERE.

Finding your way around

WHERE CAN I GET A COURSE MAP?
Course maps are in your race program AND posted on the sandwich boards onsite.

WHERE IS THE RACE SITE?
Ellacoya State Park, on Route 11 in Gilford, NH.
DIRECTIONS TO ELLACOYA STATE PARK (Race site): From points South… take I-93 North to Concord, NH and exit onto I-393 East. Off I-393 take the Route 106 (Loudon/Laconia) exit and turn left onto Route 106 heading north. Go several miles through the towns of Loudon, Canterbury, Gilmanton, and Belmont. After you see the “McGreevy” car dealerships on both sides, exit right onto the Route 11 Bypass (towards Gilford). Take the bypass all the way until it curves around and dead-ends at the traffic lights. Go left at the light onto Route 11. Go through two traffic lights. After the 2nd light the road will widen to two lanes and you will see brown signs for Ellacoya State Park/Beach. Turn left into Ellacoya State Park. Race headquarters is located at the lake-side end of the RV park.

WHERE IS THE NEAREST AIRPORT?
Manchester, NH is the closest airport (1 hr away).

IF I FLY IN, WILL I NEED A RENTAL CAR?
Yes, the event is several miles away from the airports.

WHERE IS GUNSTOCK TIMBERFEST?
    DIRECTIONS TO GUNSTOCK MOUNTAIN RESORT (WWW.GUNSTOCK.COM)
  • From I 93N-Take exit 20 in Tilton, NH. Turn left on Rte. 3N. Travel along Rte. 3N for about 10 minutes. Bear right onto the Laconia By-Pass (just past the Belknap Mall) which connects with Rte.11A in Gilford. Follow brown signs to Gunstock Recreation Area.
  • From I 95N-Follow I-95 until reaching the Portsmouth traffic circle. At the circle, exit Rte.95 onto the Spaulding Turnpike. Follow highway signs for the Lakes Region which leads you to Rte.11, and then, in Alton, NH, to Rte.11A. Gunstock is 12 miles beyond Alton.
  • If you are travelling from South or West of Boston MA it may be best to travel north on I 95 or I 495 and then exit off onto I 93 north. This route is probably quicker than following I 95 to Portsmouth NH, although traffic conditions can vary.

On the race course

WHAT SPORTS DRINKS AND GELS WILL BE AVAILABLE ON COURSE?
For the Short Course, there will be water and Gatorade Endurance Formula Lemon-Lime on the run, with Clif Shot Energy Gels at the Run Out, on the run. For the 70.3 Triathlon, Gatorade Endurance Formula Orange, Clif Shot Energy Gels, Adirondack Water for the bike. On the run, there will be Gatorade Endurance Formula Lemon-Lime, water, Clif Shot Energy Gels, Clif Bars, de-fizzed Pepsi, pretzels, fruit, salt and vinegar potato chips, jellybeans, ice and sponges. Some spots will have orange slices.

HOW DOES THE RELAY EXCHANGE WORK?
The swimmer will wear the neoprene band with the chip on it. He/she will give it to the biker in the relay exchange pen. The biker MUST wait in the exchange pen. When the biker returns to transition following the bike, he/she will transfer the band and chip to the runner in the pen as well. Athletes waiting for the exchange must stay in the relay pen. Exchanges of the chip happen there, not at the bike rack!

WHO DO I CONTACT REGARDING BIKE SHIPPING?
MC CYCLE AND SPORT will be receiving and shipping bikes. Go to www.mccycleandsport.com for all of the information.

DO I HAVE TO RACK MY BIKE THE DAY BEFORE THE RACE?
For the Short Course, you are not required to rack your bike on Friday. However, we will have professional security onsite, and recommend that athletes rack their bikes on Friday, if possible, between 5-7 PM .

For the 70.3 Triathlon, BICYCLES MUST BE RACKED IN THE TRANSITION AREA THE DAY BEFORE THE RACE ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 16, BETWEEN 2 PM and 7 PM . PLEASE REGISTER AND PICK UP YOU PACKET AT THE GUNSTOCK TIMBERFEST FIRST. Each bike will be checked in upon arrival. The transition area will be secured with fencing and an overnight security guard.

CAN I CHECK MY BIKE IN ON FRIDAY EVENING FOR THE SPRINT?
Yes, and we recommend it. There will be professional security onsite. You may check your bike in between 6-8 PM.

WHEN CAN I CHECK MY BIKE IN FOR THE 70.3?
Mandatory Bike check in is Saturday from 2-7 PM.

IS THERE OVERNIGHT SECURITY FOR MY BIKE?
Yes, Professional Security Guards will watch over your bike.

ARE DISK WHEELS ALLOWED?
Yes

Swim related questions

IS THE SWIM A MASS START?
No, the event is a wave start

ARE WE STARTING IN THE WATER OR ON THE BEACH?
The swim is an in water start, in chest-deep water.

WHERE IS THE SWIM START?
The swim start is to the far left hand side of the beach, if you’re looking at the water. You’ll finish near transition, but will start at the opposite end of the beach. Start walking to the start about 15 minutes before your wave.

ARE WETSUITS ALLOWED?
Very likely, as the typical water temperature is 74 degrees. We won’t be able to confirm until race day. Bring your wetsuit!

HOW DOES CHIP TIMING WORK?
Each athlete will wear a 'chip' that transmits data to the receiving antenna when the athlete crosses a timing mat. Lin-Mark Computer Sports will utilize the Winning Time Chip system to score the Timberman Triathlon Festival.

WHERE DO I WEAR MY TIMING CHIP?
A neoprene strap is used to strap the chip to your ankle. You will be given the band and chip when you pick up your packet. Relay teams will transfer the timing chip/neoprene band to the next relay team member, upon completion of their leg of the race. Timing Chip/neoprene bands MUST be worn on your ankle. Failure to wear them on your ankle may result in no time being recorded.

WHERE AND WHEN DO I PICK UP MY TIMING CHIP?
Your timing chip will be found in your packet, which will be picked up at registration.

DO I NEED TO WEAR THE CHIP FOR THE ENTIRE RACE?
Yes, timing mats will be set up to record splits for each leg and transition. If you do not have the chip on when you cross the finish line you are not guaranteed a finish time.

CAN I KEEP MY CHIP?
No, the chips must be turned in at the end of the race. Volunteers will be at the finish line to help with removal. Participants will be charged $35 for unreturned chips.

CAN I USE MY OWN CHIP?
No, as we are using Winning Time Timing Chips. They are not compatible with ChampionChips.

Access to Ellecoya State Park (race site) on race days

WHAT TIME DOES THE PARK OPEN RACE MORNING?
The Park will open at 5:00 AM on Saturday, and 4:30 AM on Sunday. We highly recommend getting there then. Parking more than 1000 cars in a short period of time is difficult. We don’t want you to be late. PLEASE CAR POOL IF POSSIBLE!

AFTER MY RACE, WHEN WILL I BE ABLE TO LEAVE ELLACOYA?
As a courtesy to all athletes, YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED BACK INTO THE TRANSITION AREA TO RETRIEVE YOUR BIKE AND BELONGINGS UNTILL THE LAST BIKER HAS FINISHED THE BIKE COURSE, AND HAS STARTED THE RUN. This is a safety issue and a way to support your fellow participants. ON SATURDAY, ATHLETES PARKING AT ELLACOYA WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO DRIVE OUT UNTIL MOST OF RACE IS COMPLETED (APPROXIMATELY 10:15 AM). ON SUNDAY, ATHLETES PARKING AT ELLACOYA WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO DRIVE OUT UNTIL MOST OF THE RACE IS COMPLETED (APPROXIMATELY 2:00). If you need to leave before these times, you should park outside the park itself.

WILL SPECTATORS BE ABLE TO GET IN AND OUT OF ELLACOYA STATE PARK DURING THE RACE?
Not during the the race. Cars will not be allowed to enter the facility after 7 AM and will not be allowed to leave until the last biker returns. There will be a bunch of great stuff going on during the event, so make a day of it. If you want to be able to leave during the race, you MUST park at Gunstock Mountain Resort, and take the shuttle bus. The shuttlebus will be running from 4:30 AM – Noon on Saturday and 4:30 AM-5:00 PM on Sunday.

WHAT CAN I DO BEFORE AND AFTER THE RACE?
Besides the many fun things to do in the lakes region, you are of course invited to TimberFEST and TimberVillage (a three-day event, see schedule for details) with live music, food, seminars, etc.

IS THERE A PASTA DINNER?
Yes, there are two. One on Friday evening, one on Saturday evening. The Friday dinner is the Champions of Triathlon Dinner, featuring Michael Lovato, Chrissie Wellington, Andy Potts, Bjorn Andersson, Karen Smyers, Desiree Ficker, Terenzo Bozzone, Kate Major and Simon Lessing. There is a charge for this dinner. On Saturday evening, there is the 70.3 Carbo Load Gala, complimentary for all 70.3 athletes.

IS THERE FOOD AVAILABLE FOR MY FAMILY?
The Laconia Fire Department will be selling food at the park. They’ll have hamburgers, hotdogs, veggie burgers, chips,Little Caesar’s Pizza, Pepsi, and Adirondack water. Patrick’s Pub and Eatery will also have some great food available. Jordan ’s Ice Creamery will also be serving ice cream.

DO I NEED TICKETS FOR DINNER?
All 70.3 athletes receive a complimentary carbo load dinner on Saturday evening. Friends and family may purchase tickets at the ticket table (tickets are limited). For the Friday Night Champions of Triathlon Dinner, tickets are $20 in advance. Extra tickets are limited, but may be purchased at the TimberMan Dinner Ticket Pick up table.

I’D LIKE TO BRING MY FAMILY TO THE DINNER(S). CAN I DO THIS?
Yes, tickets will be available on a limited basis at the Dinner Pick Up table, at TimberFEST, for the Friday and Saturday evening dinners.

I’M PLANNING ON COMING TO THE GUNSTOCK TIMBERPARTY, WITH THE STEAK/LOBSTER/CLAM BAKE DINNER, ON SUNDAY EVENING. DO I NEED TO PRE-ORDER TICKETS?
Yes, all tickets for the Lobster and Steak Dinners had to be pre-ordered, as the lobsters and steak are all specially ordered. There will be hamburgers, veggie burgers, hotdogs and more available for purchase at the door.

WHERE DO I FIND OFFICIAL TIMBERMAN MERCHANDISE?
Tracings Graphics will be at Gunstock TimberFEST and at Ellacoya race weekend with Timberman bike jerseys, Headsweats hats and visors, t-shirts, socks, fleece, stickers, beach towels, and more.

I WANT TO SHOW MY SUPPORT FOR MY FAVORITE ATHLETE. ANY IDEAS?
The Wealth Management Group will have the Inspiration Station onsite Fill out a inspiration sign. We’ll put some up on course, or you can hold it and show it off. Cowbells will also be available. PLEASE, NO SPRAY PAINTING ON ROADWAYS: THIS AFFECTS THE FUTURE OF THE RACE!!!!!!…IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO WRITE A MESSAGE ON THE ROAD, USE SIDEWALK CHALK ONLY!
